Motivational Marketing Article

A very useful resource on motivation. Bet you thought you were thorough on the subject of motivation. So read on to find out if you have won the bet! Uninhibited idea making Obvious? Silly? Unnecessary? Of course. But time after time people come to me after a lecture and say, "We tried brainstorming, and it just won't work in our situation." When I talk to them I find out that they don't know what brainstorming is. Some of them call it brainwashing. One even said they could not barnstorm at his company. None of them caught the concept of uninhibited idea making. It may take some time to comprehend the matter on motivation that we have listed here. However, it is only through it’s complete comprehension would you get the right picture of motivation. Keep your mind open to anything when reading about motivation. Opinions may differ, but it is the base of motivation that is important. This is the responsibility of the chairman. If he has a group, which has never brainstormed, then he has to explain what brainstorming is. Slang is one thing that has not been included in this composition on motivation. It is because slang only induces bad English, and loses the value of English. We have also translated parts of this composition into French and Spanish to facilitate easier understanding of motivation. In this way, more people will get to understand the composition. His talk should be short. It must be dramatic, and it must hammer home the basic principles of creative thinking which we cover in this book: that we have a judicial mind which is logical, and a creative mind which is illogical; that we need both, but that too often our judicial mind completely dominates our creative mind; because of that fact many successful concerns are using a technique called brainstorming, in which judgment is ruled out; that everyone contributes any idea which occurs to him, and that later, after the session is over, the judicial mind goes to work on the list. There are many ways for the chairman to get this across. He can use this book and develop a short presentation. I have a "Do-it-yourself Brainstorm Kit" designed to do the job, which consists of twelve four-color, flip-flop charts, a word-by-word script, a printed introduction to brainstorming, a bell, materials to use to orient first-time brainstormers. This kit was developed after tests before ninety-five groups from coast to coast, and it is used in many executive development programs, sales training courses, and management training schools. It costs twenty-five dollars plus shipping charges and can be ordered from Creative Thinking Courses, Inc., 11 West 42nd Street, New York 36, N.Y. Quite often I have the members, in turn, read out loud the rules for brainstorming as stated on page 70. Thus, in their own words by repetition, the fact is impressed on the members that this is a green-light session. I usually display a green traffic light or a green circle of cardboard to dramatize the idea. We have gone through extensive research and reading to produce this article on motivation. Use the information wisely so that the information will be properly used. The most dramatic way I know to show how most conferences are negative and firmly opposed to new ideas is to have each member of the group write on three-by-five cards three killer phrases, such as: "It's against policy," "It won't work," "We've never done it before," "The boss's wife likes blue." Then I have the cards shuffled and passed around in the group. They are read aloud by panel members. Now that we have come to the end of this composition on motivation, we do hope that you enjoyed reading it as much as we enjoyed writing it.
