At Hotpoint in Chicago, a plant superintendent and two general foremen were turned down after they requested a $200,000 conveyor system. The three didn't cry in their beer; they sat down and brainstormed the problem. The result was an equally efficient system. Price? Only $4000. Andrew R. Barr, Supervisor of the Esso Standard Oil Company's New York Division repair shop, gets a handful of mechanics together during a coffee break when he runs into problems. They stand around the problem in question —recently one was on how to reach an unloading valve in a difficult spot with a wrench.
